Make 1 (M1)

Make 1 (M1) is a nearly invisible increase.

Step-by-step instructions

(These instructions assume that the knitter is right-handed. Left-handed knitters will probably want to reverse the directions.)

The placement of the yarn is emphasized in the pictures rather than the placement of the right hand.

1. With the right needle, grab the knit stitch on the row below the stitch on the left needle.

2. Place the stitch on the left needle taking care that your placement does not undo the knitting.

3. Knit the stitch that you've brought up from the previous row.

4. The increase (or new) stitch is now on the right needle. Knit the stitch on the left needle.

5. The lower arrow points to the increased stitch. The upper arrow points to the original stitch.

6. A set of three M1 increases.
